I recently went to one of my supervisor's prenatal breastfeeding class
where she always brings up the subject of how children in breastfeeding
societies often nurse their dolls and asked how many in the room nursed
their dolls when they were young. This time dads in the room started joking
about nursing GI Joes. My son actually nurses his plastic TRex skeleton or
has me nurse it. Somehow, during my pregnancy, I never envisioned that I
would have plastic TRex teeth pressed into my areola while my son nursed on
the other breast. Of his enormous plastic dinosaur collection, only TRex
gets to nurse. My son is currently exploring the boundaries of which
animals nurse and which do not. It upsets him that reptiles and birds
don't get to nurse.

mother of Caleb, 28 months
