I signed back on again more than a week ago, and am so glad to again
tap into this wonderful world wide resource. I too, like some of you,
just found out that I passed the exam after a long 2+ month wait - YAH!

I just taught a BF class, and while we were on the subject of why some
women choose not to breastfeed (I asked the class reasons they may
know, then I gave them info that challenged that reason not to BF. ie.
breasts will sag, too much BF all the time, medication use...) When
the issue of it being embarrassing to BF in public, the looks of more
than half my class expressed the opposite - they shared with me that
they would be embarrassed to bottlefeed in public, because of the
importance placed on BF in my area (county of San Diego, mostly white,
middle to upper class in my specific demograph) - and they were NOT
happy about it.

It appears that though BF is the right way to feed a baby, it is still
not seen as normal as much as it is seen as trendy. When will the Ad
council ads be airing? I need a little help here!

Glad to be back,
Lisa Simpkins IBCLC
San Diego, CA, USA Mother of 2, both BF collectively for 5 years
