I have an issue once again with the nursery staff @ my hospital.
I have started ongoing in-service education programs to help the staff
understand the benefits of bf along with positioning - supply & demand etc.
Anyway, I have been off for 9 days for the holiday.
Before I left on Fri. 12/24/04 I left a note to one of the night shift nsy.
nurses.
I wrote as follows: I would like to know why you told so & so not to bf her
baby last night because you have no milk yet! The next time this occurs it
will have to written up as if it was a med. error. If you have any questions
please feel free to call me anytime. And I left her my home phone #.
The other day I had to call my director & she told me that this Wed. we are
to have a meeting with this nurse & her union rep.
Now I am armed with ammo. to bring in to show what my position is as a R.L.C.
Also, I have info on battery that could be brought against a HCP for giving
formula & NYS code on BF.
I have read somewhere about giving milk sub. & treating it like a med. error
but can't remember where.
Can anyone HELP me ASAP? PS. BEFORE WED.
Thank You anyone,
Elaine Miranda, RN, IBCLC,RLC, CCE
