Regarding the subset of babies with tongue-tie who do fine, it may be the
breasts that make the difference. Firm, smallish breasts will be more
difficult for a tongue-tied baby than breasts which easily fill the oral
cavity and are pliable enough to be compressed by baby's gums, and long
enough to get the sensitive nipple skin past the tip of baby's tongue where
it is most vulnerable to trauma.
It takes two to breastfeed, and it takes two to have a problem.
Unfortunately the problem affects both parties even if it is due to
characteristics of only the one of them.
