You mention that "thyroid was normal".  I would insist on getting more 
numbers that "normal range" on thyroid, because of how it pertains to supply. 
 She needs to check the hormone levels of T3, T4 and Free T4.  Also.....have 
antithyroid antibodies checked.
 
Normal levels are considered 1 - 4 and treatment doesn't typically deem 
necessary unless level is 5 or higher.  HOWEVER, for breastfeeding and 
conception levels are optimum at 1 - 2.  SO.....you could have a level of say 
3.5 which would affect your milk supply, but be considered in normal range.  
A doc that isn't aware that the optimum for BFing is 1 - 2 would overlook 
that as even being a problem.
 
You also need to achieve a balance between the T3 and T4 since T4 is a 
stimulating hormone and T3 is a receptor......so you need adequate levels of 
T3 to recept the T4 which stimulates the thyroxin.  
 
The antithyroid antibodies if they are high are in the beginning stages of 
causing thyroid problems because your body is attacking the thyroid.  Low 
doses can slow the process happening.
