I have to agree with Jack, and I think he said it well. My daughter Anne is
now 16 months old and we adopted her when she was 5 weeks old. From the way
this baby went instantly to my breast I knew that her birthmother had nursed
her (Anne was with her birthmom, a student from China, until the night
before we took her home). She knew exactly what to do, but breastfeeding her
made her MY baby too. I am so grateful every day for this dear woman, but we
share an additional bond in that we have both fed this precious daughter at
our breasts.
Breastfeeding a child for whom adoptive placement has been chosen might just
be the final gift that a birthmom can give, and leave her with a lovely
memory.
