Sounds like more fat was deposited in the cheeks as well as everywhere
else in this baby.  Did mom have uncontrolled gestational diabetes?

Try to get the best latch you can (asymmetrical, of course), and see if
mom can tolerate breastfeeding.  If not, help her support her milk
supply until the baby grows and metabolizes some of that fat.  Perhaps
she can do some pumping and modified bottle feeding, and some breastfeeding.
