Hello colleagues of manifold backgrounds,

I feel moved to concur with Karleen. I took the survey, and found it very
inadequate to express what I believe might be useful. It's great to
heighten awareness of the utility of continuing education about
breastfeeding. It's great to promote practical experience (and de facto
mentoring, often discussed on this list). Not all those who end up helping
breastfeeding moms will be able to get accredited as La Leche League Leaders
or the local variant of lay counselor (you have to have breastfed a child
for at least a year with LLL). But this is definitely a complicated subject
and I am glad the IBCLE is soliciting input.

A possibly related question for U.S. colleagues: Has the National
Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign made a difference in DEMAND for "first
responders" to inquiries about breastfeeding? It seems to have made a
difference in media attention to such things as unofficial milk donation,
but do you find there are lots more calls coming in, or moms in the
maternity ward or ped practice asking for info and help? I moved from one
metropolitan area to another as the campaign was getting set up, so I don't
think I have a lot of perspective.
