Respectfully, I never said she should wean, rather I suggested complementary
feeds, as this child is 12 months old.
I did not say that she HAD to give dairy, but offered a variety of
suggestions, including WATER which is completely appropriate for human
consumption. "Too much water" would be in the realm of more than a liter
for a small child. Not 8 or 12 or 24 ounces. Remember that the majority of
breastmilk and other fluids is water.

Almonds ARE considered a tree nut rather than a fruit. Again, I am saying
this respectfully, but firmly, as I have spent the last 8 years of my life
dealing with an peanut and tree nut allergic child (AND DAIRY). We are not
saying to delay nuts because of the dairy industry. We are saying it
because of the huge increase in nut allergic children. If she doesn't want
to give the baby dairy, or soy, or rice milk, or whatever, then offer the
child water, and make sure that she gets a diet rich in proteins and fats
and adequate calcium. That's what I did with my first, who didn't wean
until nearly 3. The four year old is still nursing, but I for sure don't
supply his entire intake of fluids.

Let the mom offer the baby a few sips out of her own cup at mealtime, with
no pressure. I bet the baby will be interested if she sees mom doing it.
