I am also one of those many R/S that use to have over 40 pumps and am now
down to 8. The unfortunate thing is that pharmacies have gotten wind of
renting pumps and Medela nor Egnel have little control over what stations
open up. If someone wants to open up their doors, even though it might be
the eighth one in that area (as in my area) they can. I am against sales reps
soliciting opening them up. My new lines when a potential client calls
(everyone seems to be shopping around these days) is that I provide free
demonstration of set up and usage, free consultation services regarding the
pump, handouts-collection & storage of milk, tips on pumping, working mother,
and free replacement of any little parts they may loose are the cat gets hold
of. Whether we like it or not, we are in the marketing and sales world and
we have to get our skills up if we are going to be competitive and not lose
our services. I have been in the LC field for over 12 years and it has
definately changed. Good-luck to all of you---I know Kathy A. it isn't easy.
