We also used the hand soap, but the company states that it is unknown how
the emollients affect the plastic, and possibly the milk.  While the
mothers are patients in the hospital, we have them wash their kits with
warm water immediately after pumping, and place on a clean paper towel to
dry, covered with a clean paper towel.
Once the parents are at home, and when they use our pumps in the unit, we
have them wash with dish soap and water in between use, and to sterilize
once daily as per pump manufacturer guidelines.
