Well, I've turned in my resignation at the Health Dept and am returning to
work at the Lactation Center and Mother's Milk Bank in Raleigh. My last dayat
the health dept is Friday. Not many people understand why I would resign
from a job with benefits including retirement to work parttime with a 1 and
1/2 hr commute. I think ya'll will understand. When I was hired at the Health
Dept it was with the understanding that I would be working with the
Breastfeeding program and WIC. Then the new health director was hired and she
did not think breastfeeding as part of health education. I continued to work
in the supplemental pool on weekends and realized this summer how much I
enjoy working with breastfeeding and in a SUPPORTIVE environment when I am
at the hospital and how much I miss the breastfeeding moms when I am at the
health dept. I love being a IBCLC!
So, here I am, changing to a job with no retirement, a hellova commute but
doing a job I LOVE!!
Also, I will have 2 days each week to be at home attending to my private
practice and my "baby" ( who is 12 yrs old but still needs my attention!). I
will work M W F and then T Th S so I won't have 2 days back to back with
driving and working.
I am excited, but a little scared about the commute.

Barb Whitehead, IBCLC
Eastern NC
