Thank you to all who replied to my situation and there were many of you. I
will update you. I went in this morning to see this mom and she was pumping.
I guess in report the day shift nurse had passed on what I had told her
earlier and a very supportive evening nurse talked with her when she was in a
"better frame of mind" and she decided to pump. She had not pumped as
frequently as we encourage moms with special needs babies but she was pumping.
I did see in her chart written yesterday by her OB to "bind and ice her
breasts". I wonder how I had missed that--must have been a Freudian slip!
Today another OB from the same practice had come in and written her
prescription for a breastpump to use at home. Funny how things work out! I
will keep in contact with this mom even though the baby is no longer at our
hospital since it is a Level 2 setting. Thanks again for all your replies.
Denise
