After hearing about this Conference for the past few weeks, I thought I'd
read about the speakers. I was a little startled by one speaker and his bio.
Dr. Mubaritz Naqvi of Texas Tech University School of Medicine, which states
that he received in 1995 the "Miracle Maker" award form AA Robbins and Wyeth
Ayerst (infant formula company).

I guess I am living in the past but I find it very hard to understand the new
direction we seem to be going in breastfeeding advocacy. I suppose we should
be glad that this relationship between the infant formula company and this
pediatrician at a breastfeeding conference is mentioned and not secret. But
somehow I can't get around this new era of "compromise." It's like bit by bit we
are opening Pandora's box and we seem oblivous to the consequences.

Funny though, last night when I went back into the website on the speakers
for this Confernce, his name and bio were missing. Although in a search on
yahoo, the reference to him is still there, just the information is no longer
there. So I guess he didn't speak after all.
