40 years ago when I delivered after a mad dash from Labor room to delivery
room, I was told that it was my fault since I did not appear to be in pain
:-) I remember wanting to crawl out of my body, anything to get away from
the contractions, but my face must not have showed it! In nursing school
in the 70's we were told to not overmedicate Ca pts because they might get
addicted :-( Unfortunately I don't think attitudes or practices about
pain have improved much in 40 years! American attitudes about pain are very
complex and convoluted. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
