Most maternity units dislike the open visiting hours that most have. This has
been the topic of conversation many times on the professional boards. It's
safe to say that most maternity nurses would like to see things return to "the
old way" where visitors were limited and the mothers took part in group bath
and breastfeeding classes.

It is near impossible to even find small of time to do all the teaching that
needs to be done, not to mention encouraging mothers to rest and nap (and
turn their phones off). Visitors are everywhere but most of the time because
the patients demand them.

Open visiting hours and many of the interruptions that have been mentioned
have become standard due to consumer demand, not because hospitals think
it is a nice thing to do.
