The Institute of Medicine (US) published "Nutrition during lactation" in
1991. Allow me to quote:

"Women living under a wide variety of circumstances in the United States and
elsewhere are capable of fully nourishing their infants by breastfeeding
them."

"Mothers are able to produce milk of sufficient quantity and quality to
support growth and promote the health of infants - even when the mother's
supply of nutrients and energy is limited."

It goes on and on. There are very, very few medical reasons that BF would
compromise the mother. Offhand I can't think of any - certainly not
nutrition. Is dealing with a sick kid any less stressful? This argument is
old news. I'd like to see the documentation for asserting "fragile moms" for
whom BF would be stressful.

Contact the Maternal and Child Clearinghouse, phone 703-821-8955 for an order
form.
