<Can she use an Evert-It or adapted syringe to continue to work on her
nipples? Is she willing to put out the cost and hassle of getting
Nipplettes from England (I think that's where they come from)?>

I was under the impression that the Nipplette was actually designed for
cosmetic purposes, is very expensive, may have adverse effect on
circulation, and I would think, for a post-partum mother, fail to adhere
because of continuing milk leakage that would break the continuous
vacuum.

As for a pump, especially if it is a double electric one, it can perform
the triple functions of:

    * encouraging eversion with minimal physical effort by the mom, plus

    * keeping milk stimulated if the baby's efforts are not able to do
that because of the shield, and

     * assuring a stock of EBM for supplementing with a tube under the
shield if milk transfer is inadequate.

A very inexpensive and efficient little device called the "Nipple puller"
for use just on the nipple before a feeding (not a pump) is available for
less than $5 from a Canadian source which only takes a few days with
regular postal delivery. I have no financial interest in this product or
site.

Good luck Pat, and let us know how you and she and the baby manage it.
