Hi, everyone. I finally waded through enough work and old emails, after
being away for a couple of months, to resubscribe. Its great to be back in
touch. I had been receiving some scattered information from the Latin
American network that I'm a part of, but I missed you all.

Action for Corporate Accountability is now at 910 17th St., NW #413,
Washington, DC 20006, Phone is 202-776-0595 and Fax is 202- 776-0599. Don't
seem to see an email address. The New Haven office closed, unfortunately.

IBFAN main office is in Penang Malaysia. They don't seem to have email at
least are not on any of the lists I have and I don't seem to find a home
page either. However, if you email WABA (they share an office)
<[log in to unmask]> I am sure that they can give you the address, fax number
and email address if they now have it.

Jeanette: Hola! Its good to "see" from you as always. At the Social
Security Hospital in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the breastfeeding clinic --
that attends about 7,000 mother-baby pairs a year, they have "support
groups". Actually, they are participative discussion groups, because there
are too many women for a real support group.

They started out taking any mothers and children who arrived, but as time
went on, they found that they had too many people, so the groups are now
divided up by the age of the baby. The mothers with babies < 1 month come
in earliest so they don't have to wait (7-8 am).

Also, this helps the discussion to be more directed toward the specific
concerns and anticipatory guidance that needs to be given to that age group.
There are ususally between 15-25 women per group because that is all the
room holds. The Dr. who runs the clinic talks some about the needs of the
child at what ever age (< 1 month; 1-3 months; 4-6 months; and over 6
months; ) and the mothers express their individual concerns -- there is much
discussion back and forth. Any help the Dr. gives a mother is pretty
public, so everyone at the meeting learns about positioning and sees the
sigh of relief when it doesn't hurt any more, etc. All mothers receive
their first app'tment for 7 days at the latest -- as we learned about 10
years ago that mothers need to be seen during that time.

If you want more specific information, please email Dr. Ada Rivera, who runs
the Preventive Medicine Program at the hospital. You can reach her at

It is the most popular clinic in the hospital!
