IF (and it is an important "if") the latch is really good, AND the baby has no tongue-tie whatsoever, then it may be that the fissure needs to heal by secondary intention.  I have seen these fissures heal very quickly if mom uses TNO and wears a breast shell for inverted nipples while awake. The shell pushes on the base of the nipple to hold the edges apart so it can heal from the base.
