The address for the ABS "Breastfeeding in Australia" paper gave percentages
of children being breastfed up to 2 years of age. The National Health Survey
from which the data came actually considered breastfeeding up to 3 years of
age though this data was not in the paper on the web. However, I spoke to
someone associated with the paper from the ABS and though that other might
like to know that the values that they have are that in 1995 0.7% or 3 yo
were breastfeeding at all and in 2001 0.5% were breastfeeding (these values
are based on small numbers as you would imagine but interesting
none-the-less). I've also been told that the misquotation of the WHO
recommendations on duration of breastfeeding will be amended shortly (ie
from "until 2 years" to "up to two years or beyond" ). Amazing what you can
get from a simple telephone call!
