Alison's post on RICE got me thinking about compression. I've never actually
seen anyone with breast binders (once common treatment for engorgement) but
is it possible this perhaps was not as damaging as we've been led to
believe? (Of course, the Cold component of RICE wasn't included with this
treatment.) Or does a good bra give the right amount of compression? Those
of you with a firm (no pun intended) grasp of physiology can give this some
thought.

I've heard from several women who experienced severe engorgement (one due to
the stillbirth of her baby) where the advice to "not pump" was given, but
who did use breast binding and got relief and went on to have successful
breastfeeding experiences later (something I was very concerned about when I
heard about the extent of the engorgement). More food for thought ...

I was very encouraged from the Australian and English posts who mentioned
seeing very little engorgement anymore. It can set mums back so badly, just
when they think they're "getting it" and I'd like to see it disappear here,
too.
