I say "breastfeeding" when referring to my 11 month old daughter who is
really not eating solids much and is literally feeding at the breast. I say
nursing when referring to my 4 year old son who is not feeding at my
breasts, but being comforted (even though technically he is gulping down
that milk a mile a minute LOL). The reason I use "nursing" for my son is
that if I say I have a 4 year old who is breastfeeding people seem to
picture him at the breast as often as a new born and some have even asked
why I don't give him solids (or if I give him solids) whereas if I say he is
nursing it doesn't seem to shock them as much as they seem to realise he's
not relying on my milk for nutrition anymore. As a baby he said he wanted
nummies but now it's "Mummy I want to nurse please".
