I am not sure I understand why anyone would object to suggesting breastfeeing
can help a mother lose pregnancy pounds. We know for a fact that more
calories are burned from breastfeeding than preparing a bottle of formula...burning
calories promotes weight loss. It's that simple. We should never offer any
guarantees that someone's breastfeeding experience will go this way or that. The
fact is simply that breastfeeding will expend more calories.

If women are often told that feeding formula or solids will help their
babies sleep longer at night (could be the case but no guarantee and at what risk
to baby) or that formula/bottle feeding will allow them to wear/eat what they
want, what is wrong with promoting breastfeeding by saying that it burns extra
calories so you can lose extra pregnancy pounds. It is not untrue and a
selling point that can only lead to good things...nursing moms and babies. Heather
