I think as Lactation Consultants as with nurses we have many
opportunities to branch out and work in our field. Working for a company, as an
independent consultant, in a hospital based program or as a LLL leader provides us
with many opportuniites to share our knowledge and work with the ever growing
breastfeeding population. Nothing is absolute in this world and we have to adapt
to the change. We have to help our breastfeeding families as best as we can
within whatever confines we work in. I think we have to nurture each other as
best as we can to continue all the great work we do and to give each other pats
on the back because we get enough slams from coworkers, physicians and the
general public who are not aware of the great benefits to what we do.
I am new to the list serve so haven't seen what the old was like. I do
learn alot from this site and enjoy everyone's opinions and expertise. Some
posts have taken a strong tone in my opinion but I just try to let them go. To
those who think a breastfeeding advocte works best only at a mom's side misses
out on the the whole education to the public and companies that shape our world.

I may not have been the most expressive but I say let's keep any negative
comments regarding who works where out and keep up w/ the great work we do
supporting each other in our quest to have healthy moms and babies.
