Well, I have tried two mothers on the Playtex Embrace. Neither one was very
impressed. The second mother tried it once and refused to use it again!

It does seem to be gentle on the nipples and is the only pump that I know of
that you can use either a wide or standard mouth baby bottle. That is the
plus.

The negatives are slow let downs, noisy motor, heavy flanges, tubing kinks
up easily, too high of a price ($300 at Babies R Us), and difficult to put
the flanges together so they work properly. Both moms also found it
difficult the first time to center their nipple properly because you can't
easily see into the flange as you hold it.

It really bothers me that a famous pediatrician is quoted as endorsing this
pump. He calls it a hospital grade pump on their professional evaluation web
site.

I keep wondering why personal use breast pumps keep going up in price. I
compare them to such items as microwave ovens and VCRs. Both are now under
$100 in the USA. The PIS has been out for 10 years now. When VCRs and
microwaves were ten years old, their prices had dropped a lot. (I am talking
about manufacturer's suggested retail price. I am aware that many dealers
drop the price pretty low but this means their profit is also low.)

Just my two cents worth! Kathy Eng, BSW, IBCLC
