I have been lurking here for a bit. I am a public health nurse who works
with antepartum and postpartum mothers and also with WIC at times. I do
my best to promote breastfeeding.
I have a client who is now pregnant, about 7 weeks, she has problems
with progesterone levels and miscarried her last pregnancy because of
this and was put on natural progesterone to conceive this child.
She plans to breastfeed entirely as long as possible but is concerned
that her progesterone levels will interfere with breast milk production.
Can someone aim me toward research or information about this.
Then in a related family matter, her partner who breastfed their now 3
year old until just about six months ago, would like to relactate to
relieve the other mom and to enable them to both go to work without
using any artifical nipples. We have covered some of the issues about
establishing supply and when to start but I didn't know when to tell her
about starting to relactate and etc. Also I thought that until the
pregnancy was past 20 weeks, relactation would not be a good idea.
Thanks for any help with this client.
