".baby was making sucking motions,
but was sucking on the tounge...mom did not realize this."

Wow Lori, I wanted to write about a baby that I saw on Monday with exactly
the same problem .
This baby was born on Saturday (CS) and was tongue-sucking until I saw him
on Monday. Mom thought this was breastfeeding!!
He sucked well on my finger, but not on the breast. We expressed some
colostrum in a spoon and fed him as much as we could. It was about 3
minutes before I was leaving the hospital, and I haven't been there the last
two days. I will find out what happened to him tomorrow. I talked to her
about continuing spoon feeding and pumping her milk. I also taught her to
do some oral exercises with the baby to make him stick out his tongue.
I would be happy to hear any other suggestions.
