I am currently following a case at our breastfeeding centre which has me
stumped. Hope someone can help. Male infant, born @38.5 wks. gest., birth
weight 7lbs.1oz., now 2 1/2 weeks old and weighs 8lbs. Gain has been
steady, seedy yellow BMs since day 3, clear urine. Infant appears
thriving, alert ,healthy, and YELLOW. Bizarre aspect is fluctuating
bilirubin levels, as follows--(checked with a bilirubin light meter, and
once with blood test) Apr.11th-15
                                Apr.14th-12
                                Apr.18th-19 (bld. test confirmed)
                                Apr.21st-14
                                Apr.23rd-18
Does anyone have experience with bili. levels in breastmilk jaundice
fluctuating like this? I searched the archives but couldn't find this
addressed. I sent her to her family doctor yesterday, who felt we should
monitor this and have her seen again if it goes over 20. There are some
other possible causes of the jaundice which he does not seem to want to
pursue unless the level rises higher. Any insights would be appreciated!!!
