Maria,
You will get many replies probably and references to throw at the doctor -
but really the MOM needs to get the info and be VERY STRONG in advocating for
her baby and that she really wants not only br. milk fdg, but bf to commence.
Most doctors will allow this if no real contraindications are present (from
my many yrs in NICU, this sounds like a healthy premie) and parents are
adamant.

Pat Bull posted once on K-care (hope it's OK to post now):
Excellant kangaroo video was done by Prentice, Northwestern Hospital (good
job Nicki Ward-IBCLC). I use it in many of my lectures. You can order it
by: Check made out to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for (e-mail me for
price) , send to Prentice Womens Hosptial, ATTN: Susan Rosenberg, Rm 484,
333 E. Superior, Chicago, IL. 60611. It includes several ethnic groups,
twins, dads, and more. They each tell their story of what it was like, crying
included. It is great.

Also, Paula Meier has alot or articles published on Premies and bf. You can
find a chapter she co-authored in Bf and Human Lactation by Riordan &
Auerbach (p. 253) entitled Bf the Pre-term Infant.

Hope this helps,
