I agree with Cathy Genna who gave excellent advice; I was going to suggest
breast massage and a little more sleep at night. So she could try pumping
8-10x in a 24 hr day, but with the pumpings closer together daytime, and
give herself two 3 hr stretches at night or one 4 hr stretch. She would have
to see how that works out. The other thing would be to see if she can do
kangaroo care with the baby. Skin to skin holding as much as possible, as
baby's condition allows and pump right after a session. I feel that the SMB,
Lact-e, and Medela Classic pumps do maintain milk supply better than other
pumps. I do not really have experience with the Medela Symphony pump.
Galactagogues can be used if needed, herbal or prescription, but I try to do
these other physical things first.
