Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome is a genetic syndrome comprised of omphalocele,
hypoglycemia, large infant, hypotonia and mild mental retardation in many.
They are VERY hard to get latched on and most require expressed milk for a
long time before direct breastfeeding is established (if ever). They grow to
be very large infants and children. There is lots of info on the internet on
this syndrome, even if it may not have been discussed on LACTNET! The first
book to look in would be Smith's Malfomations - every NICU and neonatologist
has a copy.
