<<She really hates the SNS, but I have encouraged her
to keep using it more and bottles less when they feel they must
supplement.
When they bottle feed, I have instructed them to use paced feedings. I am
losing my pathway here and cannot seem to know where to go next with
them...
Any suggestions? Thanks so much, Ann back from nomail >>

Hi Ann, welcome back from nomail land....

Yesterday I had a mom in the hospital who has a history of low milk supply
last two babies -- wide span between breasts, questionable thyroid, possible
insulin resistance (though no diagnosis (yet) of PCOS, possible insufficient
mammary tissue, infertility....etc etc etc.

Anyway she had used the SNS w/ her last baby, and the IBCLC in the hospital
brought it in day before yesterday to use. She hated it all over
again....just couldn't do it. Bottlefed the supplement instead. I gave her a 36 inch
#5 french feeding tube which I put through a hole in the (cheap) nipple of the
formula (yes, she's pumping, but there isn't anything else). We put the
bottle on the bedside stand, and with baby latched nicely, tucked the feeding
tube into the corner of his mouth. His suck immediately improved and you could
see the level of formula going down in the bottle. Mom ate breakfast and
chatted w/ me while nursing -- "I can do THIS!" she said, "This is SO much
easier!!"

So I offer that as an alternative -- much easier to use for most moms....
