Michelle etal.

First a re-intro. I mostly lurk and learn from everyone on this list. I've
been a volunteer with a mother-to-mother support group for almost eight
years, I became IBCLC in 2000. I've lived in quite a few places and have to
say that I want to be like Diane Wiessinger when I grow up. I earn money by
working as a lab tech doing research that is totally unrelated to
breastfeeding. Someday I would like to be able to earn some money as an
IBCLC (and CBE and doula). Just thought I needed to add my .02 worth.

I guess I'm a kind of glass is half-full person, but, I didn't think this
article was so totally negative about breastfeeding. It did elucidate the
many obstacles women face when they have to go back to work when their
baby's are still very young. It had good points about the need for support
and education early-on also the difference a supportive work environment can
have.

From my own experience - having to go back to work (California), when my son
was 2.5 months old and working pumping in around the workday. Compared to
when I had my daughter (born in Canada) while I was working in Canada and
had the luxury of a six-month parental leave. I did end of staying home
(and repaying the Canadian government), but, it would have been much easier
to go back to work, and pump, when she was six months than it was when my
son was 2.5 months.
