First, why does mom have supply issues? If the supply problem is the result of a primary cause for which Reynaud's is the secondary response, this is a backwards treatment for sure. Since there are far more effective treatments for Reynaud's that are safe, and since most Reynaud's in breastfeeding mothers is secondary to other issues (like nipple trauma, thrush and TT), why would the preference be to take a medication and stop taking the herbs? How about solving the cause of Reynaud's?

Certainly there are other herbs that do not have effects on blood pressure, but some of the best galactogogue herbs do. Milk thistle, nettles, oatstraw, red raspberry are some that she might use, as well as shatavari. And why stop the blessed thistle? Heat alone is a better treatment option than meds. There have been many posts about various ways to warm the nipples to prevent pain. I think vit D and magnesium deficiency are key and recommend them in my practice. L-arginine has helped some of my clients when other things did not, but there would be the same issue with the med interaction.

Subject: Raynauds and increasing milk supply

Permission to post. I have a mother who was taking fenugreek and blessed thistle

to increase milk supply. Then she went to a doctors appointment and was

diagnosed with raynauds and provided procardia. The MD told her to stop taking

the fenugreek and blessed thistle.

What can mother take to increase her milk supply? Or does any one have any

literature regarding procardia and fenugreek.

Thanks
