Metaphors:

Here in Northern California many people have wood stoves and need a chain
saw to cut the wood. I compare buying breast pumps to buying chain saws.
People pay lots of money for a good chain saw because they want it to be
SAFE and efficient. I tell my classes that We are looking for the same
quailities in a breast pump...Safe and efficient and we may have to pay
more for a good one. The men in the group can really relate.

I also us a metaphor for milk production: Warning, I hope you all don't
find this to be in bad taste. I always add lots of humor to my classes. I
tell them that the breasts work like a toliet. When you flush the toliet
the water goes down the drain and the sensor in the back of the toliet
senses low volume and then the toliet starts to fill up again. I use humor
with this metaphor and we all laugh, but really, water pumps and toliets do
work like the breasts. The pumps always kick on when water volume is low.

Enjoy,
