Hi All,
Coach Smith here, emerging from a summer-long spell of mostly lurking.
Thanks to Renece for her research data on "How many LC positions."

My question for you all is: How many FTE (full-time equivalent
lactation-specific positions) would be IDEAL to get all moms interested, off
to a good start, and breastfeeding for 2+ years? This includes actual people
(what qualifications?); what clinical/educational settings; how many group
and 1:1 encounters prebirth; what's needed at birth and early postpartum
care; and a description of ideal ongoing care for <how long?>. The more
specific your estimates and descriptions, the better. (I did a very rough
survey of this nature about 8 years ago, before we had anything close to the
numbers of skilled folks around that are now in place.) Here's your chance
to describe what SHOULD be happening. If we can't dream it, it will never
happen!

I'll collect responses to this question for about two months, then see what
I can pull out and report the results back to Lactnet. Please respond
privately as well as to the list, since I don't check Lactnet every day.
