Diane - there is something in what you say. This is why the market needs
restraining. Manufacturers can exploit this need to do something different
and special, and will do, if profits allow. This is why we are seeing this
crazy explosion of 'speciality formulas', which we have discussed before on
the list.

In the UK, you can buy organic goat's milk baby formula. Only one brand so
far, and it is only available in healthfood shops - at least I have never
seen it elsewhere. I would guess the distributors are not big enough to
distribute more widely. I have not seen it advertised in the health
professional journals (the only place 'first stage' milk can legally be
advertised in the EU). I have seen it advertised, illegally, in the
customer magazine of a chain of healthfood stores. The ad was withdrawn
when the store was informed of the legal position. I don't, of course,
believe that the manufacturers were unaware of the legalities. They tried
to get away with it, and did...until they were stopped.

I think there is probably a niche market for this, but until the
manufacturers manage to get to the health professionals, mothers will not
hear about it.

Actually, I think I might buy a tin and see if it tastes and smells
disgusting....: )

I'll let you know!

Now that *will* be a test - buying formula! Nearly as bad as buying your
first contraceptives in the neighbourhood store, and hoping nobody you know
sees you....actually I think I felt that way after I was married, too....;
