I now have more information to add to the message I posted earlier today.
This client called the radiology department and was told that the med she
was being given for her MRI is "gadolinium". Although I don't find it in
Hale or Briggs book I'm assuming it is a radioactive material. Any info
would be appreciated. The RN in the Radiology said that her source says 48
hrs of no breastfeeding.

Also, can I get some professional input for another mom who has the most
ulcerated nipple tips I've seen in a long time. She was in such a tremendous
amount of pain the entire feeding despite positional changes that I
recommended breast rest for 24 hrs. She has since called several other
friends and professional sources; friends have told her she should just keep
the baby on the breast and tough it out; one LC had her try a nipple shield
and the scab opened and started bleeding and her pain level is back to a 10.
These nipples look as bad as I've seen. Mom also has mastitis in one
breast. Baby is 11 days old. Suggestions? She is using warm moist heat to
nipples several times/day. On her own she started with tea bags and the
hospital LC recommened cortisone cream.
Thanks!
