Fio,

It is fully explained in an article in the latest JHL. In my estimation,
it contains a lot of good common sense observations and conclusions. That
being said, it is simply a set of new insights on one more tool in our
amamentarium that might work better for some parents, particularly if
they are already using bottles to supplement.

If their entire family has used bottles/formula, many of them are
predisposed to being swayed to those ideas. This will make a good
reference to help persuad them that at the very least, the flow needs to
be slow, the base wide, and the baby upright.

Switching to the Kossing method at least has the potential to slow down
the "chuggalugging" that some babies do in sheer self defense against
choking. Too often, the uninformed parent interprets it as "See how
hungry he is!" After that, an increasing time at breast and diminution of
bottle time can help some babies (and parents) transition to full direct
breastfeeding with encouragement that is not "too, too foreign" to what
their significant others see as "normal".
