I've been reading some of the recent posts on babies who are reluctant to
latch at the breast. I want to (re)share my friend's recent experience with
her daughter. This baby would not breastfeed well at all. Two admissions:
one for bilirubin (23) and then another for possible UTI (didn't have one).
Finger-fed for 3 weeks (dad helped out with this, esp. through the night)
with mom pumping. One night (middle of the night) this little one decided
enough of the fingerfeeding. She immediately and successfully latched on and
hasn't looked back. So my advice (after many doubts about this babe) would
be to keep on trying and persist. Be sure there aren't correctable problems
and wait for the baby to come around. Good luck!
