Subject: regarding the use of gavages

Greetings from a returnee to the list after an absence while travelling.

I have a problem I need articles or some research references if any done, please.

At my current hospital the staff in Special Care Nursery remove indwelling Naso gastric tubes completely once babes have any BFs and future feed or alternate feeds are by Oro-gastric( inserted tubes and withdrawn after each feed ).
I am rather at loss as my memory of Best Practises was to not use Orogastric tubes unless (a)only when babes were respiratory compromised.AND (b) not frequently inserted but left indwelling and strap to lower lip - as the exercise of frequent insertion caused trauma to delicate tissue and distress to the baby.

Can anyone help me here- in my travels, I appear to have lost my 'feeding folder' that had an article 'about this' with 'Fors and against' each form of feeding and I remember the frequent insertion and withdrawal had a 'list of NO NOs'.

This Hospital was granted BFHI statis in 1997 but has not been renewed??????? or lost it!!! Staff 'appeared to have lost interest' ! Suggestions to stimulate new interest.

Thanks in Anticipation,
