>The doc is planning to run labs on her breastmilk.
She gave a sample today. Does anyone have the literature citation handy
for
the changing fat value of breastmilk during the day and during each feed? <

Hello Netters,
Paula Meier's chart "Estimating Fat Concentration and Caloric Content of
Human Milk has the vaues of cal/ml, cal/oz, % of cal- fat, of
creamatocrits 3-12. The method of doing creamatocrits is on p.616 of Ruth
Lawrence's red book "Breastfeeding, A Guide for the Medical Profession".
I use to do creamatocrits on mother's milk whereby the Dr. swore that the
mother had skim milk and baby not gaining well. Always came up fine. Did
it only to show the Dr. her milk was not the problem. Then I also did
creamatocrits on the milk bank milk from the Chicago Milk Bank that I
directed, many years ago. I feel it should RARELY be done because if not
done correctly, you get a misreading and then poor mom is blamed again for
not being adequate. Breastmilk fat content can change within the feeding,
inbetween feedings, and throughout the 24hrs. Need to get several samples
to get adequate results.

Also, where were you 2 weeks ago when I was putting together my BF and Sex
lecture?? I was asked by Wisconsin LCs to give a lecture in Cedarburg, WI
which I titled "Breastfeeding and Women's Sexuality". I went back to my
old files, way back when I use to give this lecture and actually use to
include some of the info in my prenatal BF classes. I still had the info
from Masters & Johnson, 1966 when they stated that BF increased sexual
desire in many the women and also in the man- when the wife would let-down
and the milk would flow all over. Survey time- does anyone actually know
of any man (or women) getting turned on from this??? It worked the
opposite for me, but maybe I am just wired weird. Do not forget the
comparison of similarities that were made between Grantly Dick-Read &
Alfred Kinsey's data on Childbirth and Orgasm. Then Niles Newton had alot
to say about BF and sexuality, along with Michel Odent in 1993-
"Lovemaking, Birthing, Breastfeeding ... Same Hormones, Same Patterns".
LLLI felt it important enough to have it reprinted- #82, "Breastfeeding and
Sexuality in Feb. 1985. To end this, "Female Sexuality includes at least
three reproductive acts that involve TWO persons: Coitus, Parturition
(childbirth) and Lactation. Some interesting stuff. Have a good day all.
