Martha,

The birth center where I had my second daughter gave out little
booties and a onesie with the logo of the center on it, as well as a
canvas tote with the same logo.  I thought these were GREAT gifts, and
perhaps these types of items could be an alternative in places where
committees (which are, incidentally, generally the ruination of any
undertaking!) are dead-set on giving *something.*
