Hi all. I'm only about a week behind which isn't too bad I think. I'm
responding to the thread of non-compressable nipples perhaps in response to
extra fluids from pitocin or IV. Something that has been helpful is herbal
baths. There are different recipes. The one I used myself and recommend is a
handful of each: comfrey, shepherd's purse, uva ursi; several cloves of
garlic chopped up(not necessary to peel). Pour boiling water over, steep for
a half hour or more. Strain into bath and add a handful of sea salt. It is
wonderfully healing to the perineum and will reduce edema. You can put the
baby in with mom too and it helps the cord to fall off faster. I used to do
postpartum doula work and the moms loved their daily herbal bath.
