I found Dr. Nair's comments interesting, if not somewhat confusing.  I , as
a  nurse and LC here in the US, would not really have the time, or
inclination,  during a consult, to get into a long discussion on the impact
of western culture on another culture,...I know that we barely have enough
time to fit in the consult, and to help the mother and baby.  It takes all
the chutzpah, energy, and intuitive sense that I have to figure out what is
going to work for *that* particular mother and baby, in that particular
setting.  I mean, we need to get down to the facts right away, and to the
job at hand,....

I know that cultures can affect one another, and not always in positive
ways.  I also know that as a nurse (not considered a job of high esteem, at
least where I live), and as a woman, I would like to spend what time I do
have with a client helping them, rather than apologizing for cultural
influences beyond my personal control.  That would imply guilt and
responsibility on my part, which should not be laid on my personal doorstep.
