When my daughter can spell "Montgomery glands," I'll sign her up! And, now
that I think about it, she would probably also qualify to take the IBCLC
exam--I don't recall an age limit there either! She has been helping
mothers breastfeed for most of her young life (four-and-a-half years), has
participated in every breastfeeding conference and meeting I have ever
attended, etc. Her most common breastfeeding advice is to demonstrate which
breast is for what: "The baby's mouth goes here; and the baby's hand goes
here." She's been known to go get a copy of the Womanly Art of
Breastfeeding, open it, hand it to a new mother at one of my LLL meetings
and say "Here's some breastfeeding information for you." She knows how and
why to use a supplemental nursing systems when inducing lactation for
adopted babies. She rigged up her own SNS to nurse her adopted baby (which
she mispronounced the first time, saying what sounded very much like "my
abducted baby") using a small paper cup and some string. And the list goes
on...
