Boy, you hit my hot button for this week! After I work all day to help the
sleepy baby to latch, I come in and find exactly the same--bottles all night
because of "no Milk." I have begun to tell the moms to take a nap afternoon
of day 2 because the baby will probably nurse all night- - a very good thing
and not a sign of "no Milk." However, the longing for sleep and the
seduction of the staff to quiet the baby and mom leads inevitably to bottles
all night long, and my work is undone. I am extremely discouraged and I am
trying to find solutions to change this attitude/behavior, but it is so
ingrained. I am ready to get a tattoo on my forehead that says "yes, you've
got milk!" The fact that the baby wants to nurse frequently keeps being
totally misinterpreted as a negative sign, rather than a cause of
celebration. I could use suggestions and support.
Thank, Patricia Ellis, RN, IBCLC, New Jersey, The Mother and Child Reunion
