However, this may simply be parents acting on medical advice. When my 
grandson was born eight weeks premature, the hospital nursery staff insisted 
that he should only be fed every three hours, and when my daughter-in-law 
took him home a month later, the nurses emphasized to her that she should 
keep him on a three-hour schedule as nursing too often would be "too tiring" 
for him.

(Of course, she paid no attention to that, but I'm sure many new parents 
do).
