Ellen: Although some sexual partners of women with vaginal yeast do get
symptoms, it's not that common. Your partner would only need treatment
if he had symptoms or if you kept getting recurrent yeast infections not
explained by other medical problems such as diabetes. As for the
question about the baby getting thrush while nursing because you have it
vaginally, I strongly doubt that this is a risk. I know of no documented
transmission this way, and I believe that vaginal yeast is usually a
local infection (rare exception of someone with severely depressed immune
function whose candida is going through the bloodstream). As far as
treatment goes, it may be ok to do the dietary treatment since you don't
even have symptoms, but if you develop symptoms, it would probably be
wise to treat with the monistat. I am not aware of any literature
regarding the effectiveness of placing yogurt vaginally. Hope this
helps. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
